About Kathy

Kathy Eugster, retired Child and Family Therapist and Play TherapistHi! My name is Kathy Eugster and I am a retired Child and Family Therapist and Certified Play Therapist.

I earned a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia.

In addition, I pursued specialized training in working with children using an approach known as play therapy, and I obtained my professional certification as a Registered/Certified Play Therapist, and then as a Registered/Certified Play Therapist – Supervisor.

I was the recipient of the Monica Herbert Award in 2013 from the Canadian Association for Play Therapy for contributing to the field of play therapy in Canada.

I worked with children and families for close to 20 years in family service agencies and in my private practice. I retired from seeing children and families in July 2019.

As a Play Therapist, I know that play is beneficial for all children, not only those that have experienced difficulties in their lives. I also know that play can be one of the best ways to strengthen parent-child relationships.

Since I retired, I have been inspired to create this website, Pacific Spirit Play Resources, that would offer information to help parents of children, 3 to 10 years old, in strengthening their relationships with their children and in supporting their children’s healthy development, by engaging in play with their children.

As a parent of three children myself, and also during my career as a Child and Family Therapist and Play Therapist, I came to understand the enormous and powerful benefits of play for all children, especially if the play was interactive with others, and even more importantly, if the play involved the child’s parent or caregiver.

Now, as a grandmother, I am again experiencing the positive power of play in connecting with my young grandchildren!
